Fear of Failure (And How To Overcome It)

Today’s topic might be a hard one. 

We’re going to look at failure. 


(Yikes! No one enjoys feeling like a failure.) Let me preface this by saying, I am not a baseball person. If you’re a die-hard baseball fan and have thoughts after this post, drop a comment, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s dive in.

Ty Cobb was the greatest hitter of all time. He holds the record for greatest lifetime batting average. The plot twist? His batting average was 364. For the non-baseball people (haha, me), that means for every 10 swings he took, just a little bit more than three of them connected with a baseball. That’s insane! 

So many people are out there thinking that if they try to do something, they will most likely fail.

Let’s throw some perspective on that sh*t. The world’s greatest hitter only hit the ball every 3/10 times! Don’t ask if you’ll get a home run each and every time. The bottom line is? You won’t. You might say, well Ben, that’s not very motivational of you. Wait for it.

The greatest hitter missed 2.5 times as often as he hit the ball (give or take). The question you have to ask yourself is, how many times are you willing to step up to the plate? 

Swinging is going to bring failure, but success is going to come when you keep swinging. 

Try more things. Intentionally fail. Stop letting failure be the reason you don’t swing. Take more risks. Take more swings.

Don’t let the fear of failure keep you from stepping up to the plate. You’ve got this. Hey, batter batter, swing!
