Have you ever noticed that I wear black v-necks in all of my videos?
I bet you haven’t. (We always pay more attention to those things on ourselves than we do on others.)
I’m going to let you in on a secret. I wear only black v-necks on purpose.
I got to a point with my videos where I spent more time on the prepping, rehearsing and editing than I did on the actual content! When I ditched a video because I had worn the same shirt twice, I realized something HAD to change.
Maybe for you it’s the perfect background or the perfect hair. Whatever it is, it’s just an excuse.
The way I see it, there are two ways we can get past these barriers:
- PRACTICE. If you wait and perfect and stress over each video, its performance will affect you greatly. You’ve put your whole self into it! The more pieces of content you put out, the less important they will individually feel. And as a bonus, the more ideas you express to the world, the more your voice and tone improve!
- DON’T BE SELFISH. It was never about us. The real magic happens when we stop being selfish about it, and just put the content out there. If we really believe our message can help a listener, then actively holding it back because the background of our video isn’t perfect is a pretty self-centered move, don’t you think?
The barriers are endless, but so are the solutions. So black v-necks it is.
This is one simple way I reduce the barriers that hold me back from producing video content.
What will it be for you?
Peace!
